The Senior Software Engineer supports the Assistive Technology Subject Matter Expert through researching, designing, developing and/or modifying Assistive Technology solutions, applications software, web applications and tools. Responsibilities include:
Designs and codes software components, units, and modules that meet product specifications and development schedules.
Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.
Tests and debugs Assistive Technology solutions, applications, websites, tools, and others
Installs, maintains and updates Assistive Technology and testing software on Section 508 compliance test machines to allow for testing from multiple locations other than the identified test machine(s)
Participates in large system and subsystem planning.
Performs accessibility compliance testing
Supports Assistive Technology implementation across the IT ecosystem
Troubleshoots accessibility and assistive technology issues and recommends solutions.
Collaborates with develops, engineers, technicians on characteristics that affect Assistive Technology software systems and works with them to resolve incompatibilities.
Writes and updates technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, and training materials.
Troubleshoots problems and provides customer support for software operating systems, Assistive Technology solutions and application issues.
Maintains an in-depth knowledge of IT solutions/tools for overcoming accessibility barriers for web sites, software, and hardware
Participates in special projects as required.
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
i) 5-8 years of related software development experience.
ii) Minimum of 3 years of experience designing, developing, coding, testing, debugging, installing and supporting Assistive Technology solutions, applications, websites, tools, etc.
iii) Awareness of disability related issues with respect to accessing information, communication, course/instructional materials and emerging technologies.
iv) Knowledge of and experience with technical design methodology, theory, and application in relation to web-based design and development.
v) Knowledge of specialized software and designs to create accessible technology for users with disabilities.
