Job Description Summary

Systems, Analytics & Insights Group (SAIG) provides end-to-end business technology solutions and related services to various units across GW’s Finance Division. In doing so, SAIG brings together various systems and processes to create a new competency in Analytics and Insight (A&I;) by leveraging underlying Information Systems & Applications such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Business Intelligence (BI), Advanced Analytics (AA) and Data Warehousing (DW).

SAIG is currently looking to fill a Sr. Business Systems Analyst position that provides system support for GW’s Financial Management Department. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director, SAIG and works under limited supervision to identify opportunities for improving business processes through information systems and align user needs with appropriate technical solutions.

The main duties of the position include: Provides tier I and tier II support of the GWU Financial Management Tool (FMT) Budgeting and Planning tool. Applies functional, analytical, and technical skills to work directly with end users, the tool’s vendor, the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) staff within Division of Information Technology (DIT), the technical support help desk, and other, SAIG and DIT staff as necessary to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve production problems within predetermined timeframes. Additionally, prepares and delivers end user training.

Prepare and/or design key reporting and dashboards for the user community. Provides impact analysis of proposed system and process changes to provide management and stakeholders with a solid basis for making well informed decisions. Helps assess system upgrades and enhancements to identify impact to business processes and system controls including identifying opportunities for functionality or efficiency improvements.

Responsible for data integrity and reconciliation against source ERP systems (Banner / Oracle EBS) and other budget cycle related procedures. Supports the interfaces and integrations of related applications that exchange information with the University’s budgeting and planning systems to ensure interactions are successful. Prepares and executes system queries using SQL, PL/SQL, and/or other University standard reporting tools.

Plan, design, and execute application testing, systems integration testing (SIT) and user acceptance testing (UAT) through the development of comprehensive test scenarios to effectively validate quality of operational and analytics systems. Oversee end user verification, approvals, and testing sessions as directed. Develop test cases, assist end users with testing, document results, and perform regression testing. Prepare and document business requirements, process flows, and user training documentation.

Apply functional, analytical, and technical skills to serve as a tactical and strategic technical liaison to the Budget Office and Financial Management organizations through building and fostering relationships and influencing decision making processes. Responsible for the evangelization of the FMT (Finance Management Tool) to promote the application to increase usage/adoption.

Serve as the primary point of contact for the FMT user community, DIT and the 3rd party vendor to manage the list of change/enhancement initiatives and expectations. This includes facilitating regular meetings to discuss prioritization of enhancements and upgrades. Respond to production issues, troubleshoots application and performance issues, and inspect and resolve system problems quickly and efficiently.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

5 years of responsible professional experience integrating and / or maintaining complex financial systems, preferably within a University environment. Experience in Business Intelligence, including analytical report development and delivery. Significant customer service / support experience within a technical environment. Significant experience as a project manager or technical project lead. Experience with Oracle Enterprise Accounting System, Ellucian Banner or other GW business systems a plus.
