Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, the Infusion Center Pharmacy Technician interprets physicians’ medication orders using knowledge of medication use in hospitals; packages medications in plastic bags or other approved packaging; picks up medication orders and returned medications and supplies from nursing units; delivers/transfers medications to and from patient care areas and automated dispensing devices; enters/accesses medication orders in the order entry system; verifies and unpacks deliveries of drugs and places them into inventory or storage; prepares sterile intravenous and non-sterile compounded pharmaceutical products; audits and maintains drug/supply inventory; adjusts patient charges for pharmaceutical products; maintains patient records. The Infusion Center Pharmacy Technician also assists oncology research staff in coordinating the use of clinical investigational agents or products for Sibley Memorial Hospital. Working knowledge of drug names and dosage forms, including sterile and fluid therapy products. Working knowledge of IV assembly and delivery devices/equipment.

The Pharmacy Technician assist Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, as well as charging and maintaining patient records. Works only under the supervision of a hospital registered Pharmacist. This position will be in the Infusion Center half of the time, working predominately days, Monday-Friday. The other half of the time will be devoted to assisting the research pharmacist in managing the investigational drug supply for our Research department. .Prefer prior IV room experience and knowledge of investigational drug management.


  1. High school diploma, certificate, or equivalent combination of work experience and education.

  2. Active National Pharmacy Technician Certification.

  3. If required, registration with the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy.

  4. Valid Drivers’ license.
