Jacobs is currently seeking an experienced Network Engineer for an exciting program in Washington DC.

This individual will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of Cisco based network supporting over 600 workstations and servers located in several geographical locations around the DC metro area.

Responsibilities will include troubleshooting, maintaining, documenting, and implementing changes to an existing network that implements and enforces DISA STIG policies and industry best practice. They will also be responsible for completing as built documentation for the existing network, and work with configuration management team to implement CM policies for all network devices. In addition, they provide documentation support to include configuration guides and Standard Operating Procedures. The engineer will also be responsible for developing a roadmap for future upgrades and lifecycle replacements of network devices.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate, design, document, install, test, perform problem isolation and resolution, monitor, and sets standards for the network environment..

  • Maintains a complex range of computer network components and systems.

  • Researches, evaluates, and recommends new computer network equipment and technologies.

  • Utilize monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to trouble shoot and isolate problems, gauge network performance, and trace data and protocol activity.

  • Devise solutions to operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment.

  • Develops and executes contingency plans for network software and hardware failures including isolated and major outages.


  • Typically has a BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and five (5) years to eight (8) years of progressive, relevant experience, or a MS degree in a computer or system science and four (4) to six (6) years of progressive experience, or Ph.D. in a computer or system science discipline an zero (0) to three (3) years of related experience.

  • CCNP Routing and Switching Certification

  • 5 years’ Experience in OSPF routing

  • 5 years’ Experience maintaining Cisco Firewall Products

  • 3 years’ Experience with network encryption devices (KIV-7, KG-175, KG-250)

  • Experience implementing 802.1x

  • Experience configuring and maintaining SolarWinds Application suite

  • Experience with Cisco Data Center Products: UCS servers, Nexus 7000s, 9000s, 2000s, ACI

  • Experience with Data Center Technology: Fabric Extender, Virtual Device Context, Virtual Port Channel, VRF, FCoE

  • Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:

  • General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:

  • General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.


  • Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.
