This position is located in the Office of Electric Reliability. The Office of Electric Reliability helps protect and improve the reliability and security of the nation's bulk power system through effective regulatory oversight as established by Congress and the President in the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This includes overseeing the development and review of mandatory and enforceable reliability standards, as well as ensuring compliance with the approved standards by the users, owners, and operators of the bulk power system.

Major Duties for an IT Specialist (INFOSEC):

  • Analyzes highly complex reliability filings and standards enforcement activities related to cyber security issues affecting the Nation’s energy infrastructure.
  • Performs comprehensive studies and critical analyses related to complex regulatory and cyber security issues.
  • Serves as a technical advisor to the Office, the Commission and other Federal agencies especially on issues of energy infrastructure security.
  • Serves as a technical expert in information systems and security management and provides recommendations to the Commission on matters of National significance in order to strengthen the effectiveness of critical infrastructure protection programs.
  • Expert in physical/cyber security policies and performing audits or assessments of industry/NERC compliance of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.

Specialized Experience is defined as: Significant experience with NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Reliability Standards, security policies and mitigation measures applicable to cyber security.
