You will:

  • Serve as the OECA Information Security Officer (ISO). Coordinate and disseminate security incident and risk management information and ensure that procedures are implemented and corrective action is taken.

  • Assist OECA's information systems managers in planning for and establishing adequate security for their information systems. Provide advice and guidance on developing security plans remain current.

  • Review OECA's information system's security controls to ensure that those controls are operating efficiently. Assist in the development of risk assessments, security controls review, and other security reports as necessary.

  • Coordinate information security activities with those directly responsible for implementing the practices and safeguards defined in their office's information security program, including but not limited to information managers and information system security officers.

  • Ensure personnel involved in the use or operation of information systems receive training in methods to protect information and are aware of potential threats and vulnerabilities.

This position is designated as High Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.

You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.

You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed here.

We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:

To qualify for the GS-14 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-13 level defined as experience in 1) developing and/or reviewing information security plans and 2) identifying security findings and taking correction actions to mitigate the associated risks.

Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:

  1. Skill in applying Federal information systems security protocols.

  2. Ability to make decisions or recommendations that significantly influence important agency IT policies or programs.

  3. Skill in integrating information systems security with other security disciplines.

  4. Knowledge of information security monitoring devices, tools and practices employed in industry.

  5. Skill in coordinating and/or collaborating on security activities.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
