This position is within Clinical Science Research and Development (CSR&D;) Service, Office of Research and Development, at VA Central Office in Washington, D.C. The Service is one of four components of the Office of R&D; within the Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs. CSR&D; supports human studies research, including, interventional and effectiveness studies; and clinical, epidemiological and technical studies of disorders and diseases of importance to the mental health of veterans. The person in this position will provide leadership and guidance for the key CSR&D; research portfolio in the area of Mental Health.

  • Advises and supports the Director/Deputy Director of Clinical Science Research and Development Service in the planning, development and operation of the Service
  • Develops policies, procedures, and criteria for administration of the service's medical research program

The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: I possess experience in the area of Mental Health as a scientific review officer (SRO) as well as research administration which included managing a panel to review research proposals for consideration of funding by identifying and recruiting scientists with appropriate expertise, coordinating the review, processing the outcomes of review according to applicable policies and procedures, and overseeing research studies as Principal Investigator or program officer. AND BASIC EDUCATION: Must have a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT- In addition to meeting the basic education requirement and the SPF, you must also have specialized experience to qualify for this position as described below.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, principles and other guidelines to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically related to the work of the position. This specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower graded level in the Federal service. Qualifying experience includes: Experience which involved theories, principles, concepts, and methodologies of a mental health research field that is customarily acquired through education and training as a formally trained health scientist to analyze, evaluate and provide expert advice and consultation to researchers, Research and Development management, and to manage portfolios of research projects; and provide guidance and advise program administrators, respond to inquiries, and prepare reports. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:
