Job Title: Sr. Configuration Management Specialist

Job Location: Washington, DC

Project Overview: S eeking a Configuration Management Specialist to provide configuration management support on an IT services contract for the Office of the Executive Director, Technology Division, Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation at the Department of State. This is a full-time position.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain a full, centralized asset management/configuration management database of all network and server equipment

  • Provide monthly configuration management reports showing network diagrams, equipment spreadsheets, warranty and licensing information, and configuration information on entire network and all servers, VMs, switches and routers in the infrastructure

  • Maintain government approved configuration baselines for all integration activities, validating configurations against configuration management databases and confirming operational viability and security compliance before releasing systems for production use

  • Assist in the development and updates of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for review and approval of new hardware and software configurations prior to deployment, assisting with vulnerability assessments in conjunction with program standards

  • Ensure all new hardware and software components are reviewed and approved by the Security Team prior to installation

  • Ability to write appropriate cutover notifications and update of the new release content of final package deliverables

  • Develop and present Change Control Board (CCB) documentation for all existing and newly fielded hardware, assist in the presentation of changes at the CCB, answer questions, and adjust approaches as requested to mitigate change related impact and risk

  • Review and provide feedback on technical systems upgrades and configuration documentation.

  • Support material release and fielding of system components

  • Compile data on standardization and interchangeability of parts to expedite logistic activities.

  • Provide operational support for the hours required and per government and company guidance for holidays, emergency closures, and maintenance activities

  • Maintain an on-call roster and respond within 1 hour for critical systems, data and network issues as required.

  • Utilize the ticket tracking system to document a complete, accurate and detailed account of an incident and outages activities. Excellent communication, interpersonal, technical and organizational skills

  • Track all problems and changes in product documents and reports changes and current configuration

  • Ensure the proper baseline identification of configuration items, perform periodic audits, and provide verification of version release configuration items

  • Develop and maintain CM process standards, plans, and procedures

  • Ensure changes to the process methods and processes are properly approved, communicated and managed throughout the CM process

  • Establish and facilitate release readiness meetings.

Qualifications: 8+ years experience in IT industry with at least 5 years of experience in Configuration Management field. Must have experience with large scale enterprise IT contracts. Must have experience ensure the proper baseline identification of configuration items, performing periodic audits, and providing verification of version release configuration items. Must have experience developing and maintaining CM process standards, plans, and procedures. Experience in planning, evaluating, directing, tracking, analyzing, and coordinating CM activities on large, complex programs/projects. Must have outstanding communications skills (oral and written) with ability to describe and document issues for different audiences, managers, system engineers, and administrators, and prepare prepare/present briefings for customer as well as communications between engineering disciplines. Experience managing changes process ensuring methods and processes are properly approved, communicated and managed throughout the CM process. Must be a proactive, exceptional team player with a can-do attitude and excellent interpersonal skills. Must have strong analytical, planning, organizational and problem-solving skills. Must have ability to focus on the technical aspect steps as well as how they fit into the overall upgrade process. Proven ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and take lead roles when required. Must have experience interface with external customers in high-pressure situations. Prior experience serving the Federal Government preferred, but not required. Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and collaboration in a professional setting. Must be a US citizen and hold an active Secret clearance.
