The BDR division (BDR) of SAIC is one of the nation's premier emergency management consultancies, providing all-hazards mitigation, emergency preparedness planning, disaster response and recovery, and grant management/long term recovery services for public and private sector clients across the United States.
BDR is currently seeking a Emergency Management Consultant / Business Development Lead for the Washington DC area.
This position reports to the Director – Emergency Preparedness Consulting and involves selling emergency management planning, preparedness, financial recovery and response and recovery services to local and state governments, private businesses, universities and other institutions in a regionally-defined area. In addition, this position will manage the completion of work sold.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Identifying prospective clients, utilizing existing division’s relationships to market emergency management planning, preparedness and recovery work and expanding service offerings. The successful candidate will be held accountable to performance goals in terms of sales, revenue and profitability.
Assisting with writing technical scopes of work and estimating projects for prospective and existing clients.
Managing the entire sales process, leveraging his/her existing network of contacts, generating and qualifying leads and developing proposals.
Post-sale account management and ensuring overall customer satisfaction in the delivery of the planning services.
Managing the project work sold from kickoff through delivery.
Developing and maintaining client satisfaction through the delivery of exceptional work projects delivered on time and budget.
Interacting with clients, consultants, staff members and strategic partners to produce excellent products which fulfill client planning needs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (preferably in public or business administration, risk management, communications or public health) or equivalent experience with a minimum of 9+ years relevant business development experience in a consulting firm or service provider, preferably in the emergency management market segment.
Professional consulting experience preferred.
Emergency management planning certifications and designations are received favorably.
Strong written and oral communication skills with proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff.
Solid track record of identifying, qualifying and closing business opportunities in the disaster preparedness or recovery sector.
Extensive network of existing business contacts or relationships with buyers of emergency management services.
Ability to travel: position requires 40-60 percent travel.
